In addition to Mardi's pilgrimage to the Majestic spa, we both find the inn and restaurant ideal for a stay before and following any ferry trip from Anacortes.

With the hallmark cupola on top, this award-winning establishment on Fidalgo Island (accessible by bridges), offers guests the romance of an historic inn with the sophistication of a modern day spa and the fine cuisine of an acclaimed restaurant.

Originally known as the Anacortes Mercantile, the building was erected in 1889 on the corner of 8th and I Street. Later it was placed on rolling logs and pulled by horses to its current location in the historic downtown area. In the fall of 2005, innkeepers Michael Keenan, Bob Moran, and Guy Davidson had the Majestic Inn and Spa remodeled into the elegant inn it is today.

With a complimentary continental breakfast (and a free pass to a local fitness center) plus its nearby surroundings offering gallery walks, antiquing, and island hopping adventures, you'll find the Majestic Inn and Spa a world-class choice in a romantic Northwest destination.

Putting a Facelift on History

With 21 spacious rooms ranging from single to adjoining suites, all have been completely remodeled to offer luxurious comfort with elegantly designed Northwest interiors. All have a private bath with special amenities including luxurious robes, aromatherapy soaps, lotions, and shampoos. Most rooms have wet-bars, some have soaking tubs, and for the ultimate in romance, request a room with a private deck.

For a special occasion (or to turn an ordinary day into a memorable event), make it a point to reserve the Majestic Suite. With a living room, bedroom, two baths (with enormous walk-in shower and double-jetted Jacuzzi for two), two decks and two plasma televisions, this suite will make you feel like royalty.

Rooms of Adventure

The main floor of the inn offers many interesting rooms to explore, including the Fireplace Room and the lively Pub. Two antique glass doors open to a long bar and groupings of inviting chairs and tables. With an extensive wine list, exceptional martini selection and signature cocktails, the Pub is a great gathering place that hosts local and regional entertainers on Friday and Saturday nights.

The on-site luxury Chrysalis Spa and Salon offers massages, facials, body treatments, plus manicures, pedicures, waxing and hair services. Mardi raves about the service and reappears totally rejuvenated. While she is being attended to I drop into their retail Spa Boutique to purchase her favorite lotions to gain points with her on Mother's Day.

Expertly Prepared, Exquisitely Served

Open and airy with floor-to-ceiling windows, Anna's at the Majestic is a stunning dining room with an equally inspired menu. Executive Chef David Burdette presents regional dishes infused with European influences. An inspiring chef with 25 years of fine food experience in 5-star resorts, hotels, and fine dining establishments, David's dynamic personality simply comes through his cuisine. My favorite is his macadamia nut crusted halibut. For a divine dessert, order the apple crumble with seasonal fresh fruit for the two of you to share.

After dinner, Mardi and I enjoy retreating to the cupola atop the inn. This intimate room has a sitting area with windows all around to enjoy the view of Anacortes. If you follow this with a show at the live theatre nearby, you'll find it's a romantic way to end your evening.
