A wonderful dinner, fine wines and no driving made this our anniversary choice.

Built into a bluff overlooking Saratoga Passage on Whidbey Island, the award-winning Inn at Langley puts you within walking distance to all of all of the art galleries, antique stores and boutiques in the waterfront village of Langley. Offering a peaceful balance between relaxation and outdoor activities, it's a private haven for a romantic getaway close to home.

The inn provides a peaceful, Zen-like environment. Works of local artists are found in all of the common areas. Guestrooms create a personal sanctuary with the use of space, natural fabrics and rich furnishings in a simple setting.

Watch the View and Feel Renewed

Each of the inn's 22 guestrooms, two suites and two cottages feature 180-degree waterfront views and an oversized jetted tub, situated to face the fireplace and the Puget Sound. Large, outdoor porch-style balconies give you a front row seat to beautiful sunrises over the Cascade Mountains on the mainland and romantic sunsets over Saratoga Passage.

More than once Mardi and I have heard the distinctive sound of the gray whales breathing at night in the dark waters beyond our balcony. Even though we couldn't see them as we peered out into the night, we surely knew they were there. These are experiences we will never forget.

The suites are oversized, with a private bedroom and a sitting room with a deck. Even larger are the two-story cottages. Each offers almost 1,000 square feet with a generous living room area on the main floor and a private bedroom on the floor below.

Get Up Close with the Chef

The heart of the inn is the Chef's Kitchen Restaurant. An open display kitchen with a double-sided river rock fireplace, its entrance is through a formal herb garden and fruit trees and opens to a dining room that seats 36. Twelve guests can be seated at the Chef's Table, which is centrally located in front of the kitchen (Mardi and I find this is be the best seat in the house).

Chef/General Manager Matt Costello prepares a six-course dinner on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings, adding Thursday nights in the summer. With extensive award-winning credits in the Northwest, his experience includes chef positions at the Four Seasons Olympic Hotel, plus both the Dahlia Lounge and Palace Kitchen, where he joined with the famous Seattle Chef Tom Douglas.

Chef Matt's cuisine is seasonally inspired by the fresh ingredients of Whidbey Island and the region and complemented by selections from the inn's extensive Northwest wine collection. A complimentary Breakfast Buffet is served daily featuring a European-style breakfast including fresh baked pastries, fresh fruit, quiche and frittata, house-made granola, and more.

Three Must-Do Activities

Wildly popular with the guests, be sure to ask about the Chef's Kitchen Cooking Classes available during your stay. Whether or not you consider yourself a gourmet cook, you'll return from your romantic getaway with the culinary skill to impress your friends and family (at least on one dish!). Other must-do adventures during your stay include beachcombing and indulging in your choice of treatments in the onsite Spa Essencia. Complete with three massage rooms, and a steam/wet room, it is an incredible way to soak up the deep peace of the island.

We have spent the last five of our wedding anniversaries here and always include the incredible six-course dinner that Matt prepares on the weekends.
